Our yard at 57 S Linden Ave in South San Francisco is about 27 minutes from Atherton straight down US-101, and every vehicle that pulls onto Watkins Avenue is one we own. No marketplace, no subcontractor, no 20–40% broker margin between you and the people running the bus. The dispatcher who prices the job is the one who assigns the driver to it.

The runs our drivers already know

Distances are road miles from Holbrook-Palmer Park. Times are typical off-peak. Atherton has no commercial strip, so every row below assumes residential-street access and a staging plan agreed before the day.

Why it matters who owns the bus

Direct operator vs. national booking marketplace

Most sites ranking for "charter bus Atherton" do not own a single vehicle. They resell operators like us and add a margin. Here is what changes when you skip that layer.

What Atherton charters typically cost

The ranges are published so you can budget before you call. Your actual quote is itemized to the hour and the mile, and it does not move after you book unless the trip does.

Minibus, 24–35 passengers$150–$175/hr

Driver included. Five-hour minimum, so a half day runs $750–$875. Park events, school runs, guest loops from Menlo Park hotels, SFO transfers.

Motorcoach, 56 passengers$190–$245/hr

Driver included. Quoted per itinerary on top of the hourly rate because deadhead, tolls and return time change the total.

Recurring shuttle programContract rate

Fixed weekly routes for Atherton schools and clubs. Monthly invoicing, PO-based billing and net terms.

Always included: driver, fuel, standard insurance, live tracking. Quoted separately: tolls, parking, driver overnight on multi-day trips, gratuity if you choose to add it.

Atherton FAQ

Answers from the people who dispatch the buses

How much does a charter bus cost in Atherton?

A half-day (5-hour) 24-35 passenger minibus in Atherton typically runs $750–$875 including driver, fuel and insurance. A 56-passenger motorcoach is quoted per itinerary because the deadhead from our South San Francisco yard, the hold time on site and the return hour all move the number. You get an itemized quote from dispatch, not a marketplace estimate.

Can a full-size coach get into an Atherton street?

Sometimes, and we will tell you honestly when it cannot. Many Atherton lanes have no curb parking, low branches and tight radii, so we usually run 24-35 passenger minibuses inside town and stage a larger coach at a wider cross street or at Holbrook-Palmer Park on Watkins Avenue.

Do you handle school trips for Menlo School or Sacred Heart?

Yes. We run athletics travel, field trips and graduation-weekend family shuttles for the Valparaiso Avenue campuses. Drivers are our own employees, enrolled in our DOT drug-and-alcohol testing program, and we can send the same driver on a recurring route so the coaches and staff know who is picking up.

Which airports do you serve from Atherton?

San Francisco (SFO, about 19 road miles up US-101), San Jose (SJC, about 20 miles south) and Oakland (OAK, about 35 miles over the San Mateo Bridge). We track the flight and hold the vehicle rather than starting the clock while the group clears baggage.

Are you a broker or the actual bus company?

We are the operator. Umbrella Global Bus owns the vehicles, employs the drivers and runs its own dispatch and shop from South San Francisco under CPUC TCP 0037963 and USDOT 3126263. Nothing is farmed out to a subcontractor and there is no reseller margin sitting on top of the operator rate.

Can you issue a certificate of insurance for a private Atherton event?

Yes, usually the same business day, naming the school, club or homeowner as certificate holder with whatever wording their risk manager asks for. Because the vehicles are ours, the COI comes from our policy and not from a third party we have never met.
